A MEETING OF MINDS

Speaking out against the status quo has never been easy.  Over the centuries people have been slurred, slandered, stabbed, shot, murdered – and crucified.

Ever since I began my campaign for office in 2004, up to this very AMERICAN TELEGRAPH post today, people are still taking pot shots.

I am not complaining.  It is part of the job – and, quite frankly, somebody has to do it – or else nothing would get done.

Patience is the glutton of time.

From the start, I have been accused of trying to get somewhere “too fast.”  I was advised by the then “leader” of the GOP in Whatcom County, in 2004, to run for precinct officer and start “at the bottom” when I ran for Congress – my first try for political office.  I lost, but not by much.

But I am not here to rehash the past.

What I want to say today may insult, infuriate and simply piss off a lot of, otherwise, well-meaning people.

Since my last newsletter was sent out I have gotten a load of PRIVATE emails that accused me of “giving up” and being a secret “libtoid.”  And let’s not forget the, “dyed-in the wool Socialist.”

All are rather funny when you consider my real record – but THAT is the point I want to address today.

What I write and what is inferred are many times not the same.

So today, I intend to try and set the record straight with regard to my thinking as to what is going to take place for the rest of this year – and why.

Please be forewarned – this is not a rant.  I have never liked that nonsensical, politically correct term.  Seems that anybody who voices an opinion nowadays is “ranting.”  Pretty ignorant, if you ask me.

What I am saying is simply my “take” on the state of the nation, as I see it today.

TIME FOR THE TRUTH

Let’s go back to 2008 – and “Obama Mania.”  If you look back to my newsletters then, you will notice that I predicted that John McCain would win.

I did not do this because I was “obsessed” (another overused PC term) with McCain.  I just did not think that Americans were stupid enough to vote for somebody who was not even close to being properly vetted.  We still don’t know that much about Obama – and probably never will.

I attributed high marks to the “common sense” of the American public.  I was blinded by a faith that We the People will prevail.  America simply would not be that dumb to vote for an obviously pathological liar as Barack Obama.  Nobody in his right mind could believe even half of the promises that he was making.

Talk about an Elmer Gantry politician.

So, I called McCain as the one to win.  And I completely blew it.

Now I understand why – and this is what I hope readers will take away from today’s newsletter.

I could not believe that “Americans” were so consummate in their stupidity.  They were duped into voting for a “nobody.”  And they did it with glee.

So, from that day on, I started to actually look at We the People in a totally different light.

And what I discovered, frightened me to the core.  Remember, this was in 2008.

In a thumbnail sketch, these are just a few of the mainstream trends that I saw.

First off, everybody had tattoos. Not just one USMC tat, or the “Mom” tattoo of yesteryear.

These people had tattoos all over their bodies.  I mean, it was like they fell asleep under the needle and the tattoo artist had a blank canvas and went completely nuts.

I just saw some joker just the other day with a picture of Johnny Cash tattooed all across his neck.  I am not kidding.  I also love Johnny Cash – but not to that degree.

So, I got to thinking.  Those tattoos cost a lot of money.  So how come we are in such a down economy and virtually everybody has tattoos.

Once everybody is saying the same thing – nobody is saying anything.

But not only did everybody have them – but so did almost every homeless person I have come into contact with – and that is a lot here in the capital of California.

How come homeless people can afford tattoos?

So I began to consider this.  Maybe We the People are not all that smart anymore.

Our children now rank 26th in English comprehension – and 28th in mathematical ability, out of the “advanced nations” of the world.

But tattoos aside, let’s take smoking.  Cigarettes are an astounding $5.00 per pack.

That is insane – but a lot of people are still smoking.  Again, I have never met, nor encountered, a homeless man who was not smoking – or smelled like he just came out of a smoker room.

Then we have the cell phone phenomenon.  Everybody in California drives – and talks – on their cell phone at the same time.  We are all SO important nowadays.  Self-centered is more like it.

But the conversations on the cell phones are simply incredible.  I was shopping the other day and the lady in front of me was telling her friend what she was buying in the store.

And she was fat.  No, not fat.  Obese.  

Yet, in her cart were Fritos, two bags of potato chips, Twinkies, two loaves of white bread, and the proverbial case of Diet Coke.

Looking around the market, I noticed that almost everybody was horribly FAT – and the stuff they were buying was pretty much the same garbage.   It is now estimated that 75% of Americans are either overweight – or obese.

Going out to my car I was panhandled twice – by white men – with tattoos and cell phones!  I just walked by them – and was taunted with, “Well, you have a nice day.”

And then there are the TV advertisements.  If you actually count them, you will discover that a clear MAJORITY of the ads on TV are DRUG related.

Drugs for this – and drugs for that.  Drugs for everything – and drugs for nothing.

But the drug disclaimers are what really astound me.  Taking certain drugs (passed by the food and drug administration) can cause, severe headaches, depression, heart attack, stroke and other “side effects.”

“If, in doubt, consult your physician.”

Who, in their right mind, would take such an array of drugs with such dire warnings.

Apparently, a lot of stupid American people do exactly that.

When I had my physical a few months back, my VA doctor asked what prescription drugs I was taking.  When I said none, she restated her question.  When I told her again, she couldn’t believe it.  “Everybody takes drugs nowadays,” was her shocked reply.

When she asked how I stay in such good shape, I told her that I drink red wine and eat a lot of garlic.

She just laughed.

How many people reading this newsletter today take NO prescription drugs whatsoever?

Has anybody ever heard of the drug called, SOMA?

BRASS TACKS

But I am just scratching the surface.  Now let’s get down to brass tacks.

Our Congress – House of Representatives and Senate – are some of the most crooked individuals on the planet.

If you take each individual person – and do a complete background check – you find that most have had serious run-ins with the law, or have had problems with “personal finances” or other such “indiscretions,” yet, they are elected – time and again – back into their respective positions.  Approximately 90% of incumbents are re-elected to office.

Now, let’s look at our highways.  A total and complete disaster.  I have lived in a number of countries in my life – notice I said lived in, not “visited.”  There is a huge difference.

The roads, streets and highways in America are substandard to Third World Country standards, as based on our GDP.

I remember, while riding through Tennessee with a Vietnam veteran friend of mine, on our way to Washington, D.C., to visit the Vietnam Memorial.  We spotted a sign on the back of a tractor-trailer.  It simply read:

Politicians – fix the roads.

Another point to consider is the housing bubble.  I dare readers to look at it with completely honest eyes.

If the housing bubble would have kept going – nobody would have been crying in their beer about being ripped off by the banks, victims of unethical loan practices, or bitching about having their home go up 50% in value in six months.

But the dumbbells that went in way over their heads got caught with their pants down – and lost their shirts in the process.

So, whose fault was that?  The buyers THOUGHT they were going to get rich quick – but they gambled, and lost.

So came the big cry out of being manipulated by Wall Street Banks.  I don’t recall ONE person complaining that a gun was held to their head and forced to sign loan documents. They did it freely and willingly – for the sake of simple GREED.

In other words, they were just plain stupid.

When greed overtakes need – you bleed.

SO, WHAT IS THE POINT OF ALL THIS?

The point is, I have had a lot of readers write privately – as stated above – with reference to the upcoming LANDSLIDE that Romney is somehow going to pull off.

If these people are watching ALL NEWS CHANNELS – then they would come away with a completely different trend of thinking.

I FORCE myself to watch, The Ed Show, Rachael Maddow, Chris Matthews, CNN, and all the rest of the mainstream media.  I also watch FOX News.

I still believe that FOX News is the most balanced one on TV – and YES, I think it is skewed to the right.

But, my point is, FOX News in not the ONLY news I watch.

And this is where the crux lies.

Most people who ONLY watch FOX tell me that they “just can’t stand the other news programs” and therefore refuse to watch them.

Well, folks – that is a HUGE mistake.

I know very informed people who tell me every time Obama comes on TV to give a speech – they simple turn to another channel.

So here is a terrific HINT that I learned while still in university – and studying speech communication – as my minor to my political science degree.

TURN DOWN THE SOUND OF THE PERSON WHO IS SPEAKING.

Then, concentrate on the speaker’s body movements and gestures as he is speaking.

But, MORE IMPORTANTLY, concentrate on the audience and how they are influenced.

I implore every reader to do this one simple task.

The next time Obama comes on to give a speech, watch how he works the crowd with lie after lie.

But even more horrifying is to watch the crowd’s reaction.  They are constantly nodding in approval, agreeing with everything he has to say – and smiling while doing so.

And before anyone starts to bellyache that I am comparing Obama to Hitler – let me explain a plain truth.  This Hitler speech has been used in the best of speech classes, around the WORLD – simply because it shows the methodology of the speaker.

He is slow to start.  Then builds and builds into his crescendo – like a classical concert of sorts.

One thing that always used to startle my speech students in Japan was the effect Hitler had on the German people – at that time considered some of the SMARTEST people in the world.

Imagine how they would react, had they all been totally dumbed-down.

And, also notice another critical point of his power of oratory.  Most people believe – after the first viewing – that the speech was totally extemporaneous – off the cuff, with no notes being read.  It is only on the second viewing that one discovers that Hitler read almost all of his speech – but did it so well – that no one really noticed.

Does the teleprompter come to mind?

And did you notice the Roman columns in the background?

One reason that Obama had his records sealed was the simple fact that he took a very large number of public speaking/oratory classes – and did not want this fact to be made public – least people start to question the true nature of his message.

IN CLOSING

My main point with today’s newsletter is to encourage everyone to listen to all news channels – not just the ones you agree with.

Focus on what the speakers of BOTH parties are saying.  But not only what they are saying but how they are saying it.

Then run a comparison.

Watch an Obama speech with the sound turned down and watch not only him – but the reaction of the listeners.

Then do the same thing with Romney.

You will be shocked at the difference – and THAT is what I am so alarmed about today – with relation to our nation as a group of dumbed-down, fat, crybabies who want it all NOW – yet not willing to work hard for it.

But yet, they VOTE.

So, in closing, I ask that nobody get overconfident about a Romney Landslide.

If, by some miracle, he does defeat Obama – I will be the first to issue a full mea culpa.

And I will do so with glee.

Best wishes and keep thinking positive.  But even more so, keep thinking.

How about making a complete list of human traits that qualify an individual to vote…simple stuff such as; what is the name of your congressman (last name only req’d) or what is your state capitol (again, last name only)? I wish I weren’t so cynical but I’ve decided to take the “road more traveled” and “it made all the difference”…just a slight mis-quote.

    Thanks for another thought-provoking edition. I think the big difference between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives tend to think, whereas liberals tend to “feel.” A quote that is often attributed to Winston Churchill goes like this: “If you are not a liberal at the age of 20, then you have no heart, but if you are not a conservative by the age of 40, then you have no brain.” I think this is one of the main reasons why you see the Obamabots nodding and yelling praises with every word that is spoken; they are reacting emotionally to what are mostly nothing more than empty platitudes, largely because of Obama’s superb oratory skills. Those who support conservatives are usually looking for substance, something that makes sense, and if the speaker is able to get them excited, which is rare among conservatives, then all the better. Herman Cain comes to mind. He was not only substantive, but brilliant in his delivery. That and the fact that he was a Black American were enough reasons why Obama and his Chicago hit squad had to eliminate him early on. I sent you an article earlier, which I will share here, and it provides lots of logical reasons why Obama could be defeated in a landslide, although I agree with you that the sheer number of uninformed and dumbed-down voters is at a level unseen in our history. Back during the Carter-Reagan contest in 1980, there were still enough voters who could think logically, even after they may have reacted emotionally by voting for Carter in 1976, but a lot has happened in government schools over the last 32 years to change this. As to watching the news, I personally choose to watch none of the above and focus on baseball for no other reason than to maintain a semblance of sanity. I hope your readers enjoy this article by Libertarian Wayne Allyn Root entitled “WHY OBAMA WILL LOSE IN A LANDSLIDE.”

    What can one say, you have pointed out the facts, along with a few predictions; but predictions are a personnal opinion. All the newscaster, newpapers, and other magazines are all reflections of an individual. Just because you have provided a personel eMail address doesn’t mean a DAM thing. Just means folks are affraid to speak in public. After all, our elected officials speak in public and get comments, but most don’t because they give up. Therefore, there is no representation.

    I can remember Americans getting voicetress over Obamacare and saying no…but the polictians didn’t listen to us, but their own party and opinions. And some getting their own legislation as a rider for their vote. But has anyone looked at those parts of the bill and its riders. What would the vote be without this type of legislative politics?

    The video of Hitler (I also listened to a couple others), yes command of an audience, but if you read and understand the words on the screen, he really is saying more than a great oratory. Look Out!! Listen carefully, not to hear what you want, you have to listen to each and every word to get the real person and what they are saying.

    I say those unwilling to post their comments here as you provide for this public forum, are just part of the silent Americans and affraid to speak out, as it is their right. I bet they vote the same incumbent each time they vote!!

    As for those you post here, I never see too many opinions or comments of their personal persona as to who they really are and where they stand on the issue.

    All I say, only 10%-15% of eligible voters vote for our President. Image if every eligible voter would vote? Get rid of the electorial college so the Presidential candidates HAVE TO FOCUS ON EVERY AMERICAN FOR THEIR VOTE; Not just the states with the Electorial Vote that would get them elected. Do as the USA professes to others in the world to allow the popular vote count from every and each individual!!

    I voted 4 years ago; but I did not Vote for Obama and I will not again!

    I am sorry that citizens castigate you for telling the truth, but I like your thinking and pass your newsletter to many of my friends.

    Instead of watching all the channels, I do watch FOX News, but I also take three newspapers where I get a lot of the liberal rhetoric. It is our educational system that has dumbed down our youth which is creating the problem. It is so sad to learn that so many citizens only mouth what they have seen on TV, and they are not able to think for themselves. Politicians seem to know this so they tell people what they want to hear as Obama does, and they believe him!

    Common sense should tell citizens that taxes paid to our government are earned by working thru our capitalistic system, and when there is unemployment no taxes are earned, yet citizens expect government to continue supplying all the benefits they have enjoyed. Then where does the money come from to pay all these benefits? Government should only do what citizens cannot do for themselves, such as law enforcement, fire protection, roads and bridges, etc.

    When one studies history, they learn that Socialism has never worked, yet we seem to be like the rats in the Pied Piper and follow Obama right into destruction of our Republic. How many citizens know that America was created as a Republic and not a Democracy?

    Thank God there are citizens like you who are trying to open the eyes of people so they will think about what our legislators are doing, and attempt to correct the liberalism that seems to permeate America. I applaud your work and continued involvement in politics.
    Our culture is being destroyed, out basic Christian values are scoffed at, taxes are wasted, and apathy seems to have settled in, except for the people like you who are truly involved in attempting to change peoples thinking. Keep at it Larry, and I sincerely hope you are wrong about Obama winning another term. I am hopeful that voters will wake up in time to support Romney and change the complexion of Congress, so that true changes can be made. Otherwise America will be lost as we have known it.

    Hi Larry

    I take your general point. There’s a telling scene in the British film, “My Beautiful Launderette”, where the Pakistani British Launderette owner, a died-in-the-wool socialist, witnesses the trashing of his Launderette by a bunch of racist skinheads, and observes, “The working class have been a great disappointment to me.”

    You have seen the mindless election of totally unqualified “celebrities” in the US, I’ve seen it in Blighty, and we’ve both seen it in Japan. There is a universal blind-spot in the vision of the common man. “We the people” are often idiots.

    However, it is not the whole story. I think a lot of people DO actually vote for policies, or at least parties, and for that reason they cannot always vote for character. I think a lot of people in the States probably voted for Obama first time around because a) he was the Democrat, b) they thought US foreign policy under the Republicans had gone disastrously wrong, c) they actually believe in some form of welfare state, d)they wanted some form of universal healthcare and felt the Democrats were more likely to deliver this than the Republicans, and e) they probably balamed the Republicans for the banking crisis.

    I’m not American, but if I were, I would have wanted to support John McCain in the last election and Ron Paul this time around (I know he didn’t go all the way through), in terms of character, but would have been prevented from doing so by the fact that I disagree with key of their policies (although I might have made the plunge with Ron Paul as I think he’s about the only American pol. in living memory who realistically has a clue about US foreign policy, and this is so rare it might be worth making a sacrifice for).

    8 years of GW and you wonder why we wanted to ditch the Republicans. Two wars and an economic crash during his term and were called “stupid” for voting for someone who said he would end the wars and try to right the economy?

    You sure are lost if you think only a “few” of us were a bit upset and tired of the situation GW created for our country. None of us like the debt that GW created with his tax cuts and exerbated by the crash of the economy but I note that nobody wants to admit that we must cut our military sending along with social spending to right the ship. 22 billion for a new fighter plane that the military will not put into battle and has killed a few of its pilots and that spending is OK?

    Lets get back on planet earth and put our ears to the ground. If we could quit the complaining and try to focus on positive solutions, the atmosphere might get better.

    Larry,
    Please do not feel alone. I also do not take medicine except an occasional aspirin and vitamin C during the winter months. When everyone around me has the flue, I eat garlic sandwiches made with fresh garlic. I also have a garden and try to learn all I can about the value of herbs. I am 64 years old and in good health. I believe I am the one that knows myself and my constitution best. With God’s help I can tell in most cases, what has been ailing me. I read a lot and I try to listen when others talk about their health problems. Once a year I have blood tests and heart tests in order to stay on the top of any creeping up problems. Personally, I believe that too much free health care has done people wrong. I know people who constantly run to their doctor’s office about simple things that they could have taken care of themselves. They also take several prescriptions and stockpile on medicine they do not need. Perhaps, instead of free healthcare for all we ought to provide only care for serious illnesses and catastrophic situations. Aristotle said, “Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body.” Larry, hang in there and thank you for speaking the truth. There are some of us who appreciate you.
